Certificate FAQ

What will I do with the Certificate?
The Certificate is a knowledge based curriculum. The one skill that is consistently developed throughout the Certificate is a Mindfulness practice. The Certificate is interdisciplinary using the best in evidenced based practices, in both Eastern and Western models.
As a health professional the certificate will increase your ability to assess individuals from an “integrative perspecective” and will offer more choices in choosing health care interventions for yourself and your patients while offering you the tools to increase the quality of your personal and professional life.  Students report they experience reduced levels of personal stress, and heightened awareness in their own life.  The curriculum of evidence based research and experiential nature of the courses facilitate students making changes into their lives.

Do I have to have a degree in order too apply?
Yes. You must have a minimum of a Bachelors degree form an accredited to University n order to apply and have maintained a 3, .0 GPA at the last two years of your Bachelor’s degree.

How long are the classes how often do they meet?
Fall and spring classes are once a week, for three hours for 16 weeks. Summer meet twice a week for four and half hours for 5 weeks all classes are 3 credits.

Do I have to take all the classes?
No. You have an option of taking up to 6 credits (or 2 courses) before applying to the Graduate Certificate in IHM.

Who are the instructors?
The instructors are a blend of ASU faculty teaching integrative health and health care practitioners in the community. This Certificate offers you real world experience coupled with evidenced based research. The faculty continually bring and are involved in the most current research.

Where are the courses taught?
Classes are taught at the Downtown campus, SHC Shea Campus.

What if I don’t have a graduate degree?
No problem, we have SWU 250 course Stress Management the Tempe campus.

How much is this going to cost?
The cost of each course is the current tuition rate for a 3 credit course. You may want to check your benefits package as many times employers will pay or subsidize your tuition because it is an approved graduate level course.


Quality of Life - What kinds of topics do you cover in his course?
The course is experiential and didactic. Students have an in depth opportunity to look at themselves and to evaluate all areas of their life. Students will experience, adverse effects of toxins in their environment, food, home and community works place. Nutrition and best nutrition protocols reevaluate significant relationships with themselves and others and opening doors to explore their passion and develop a personal vision for themselves in the future. Other topics include humor, relaxation techniques, and creative activities, exploring your physical environment, carbon footprints, and recreation.

Treating the Whole Person
The course introduces a new paradigm of treating the “whole” person’s mental and behavioral health by integrating the individual’s physical well being within the context of a collaborative interdisciplinary model.

Ancient Healing Traditions
The healing traditions of traditional Chinese Medicine; Ayurvedic; Naturopathy; and Indigenous Healing, particularly the traditions of the southwest populations are discussed. How western and eastern traditions partner in today’s medical community are explored.
Speakers trained in those areas participate in the class and often and demonstrate techniques.

Introduction to Holistic Therapies: Body Mind and Energy
Offers the student an opportunity to explore current research in various healing modalities. Class comprised of practitioners trained in the body, energy therapies and students have the opportunity to experience some of these techniques.
