FALL 2009
- Scott Smith, Ph.D. 2009, received honorable mention of the 2010 Society for Social Work and Research Outstanding Dissertation Award for his dissertation entitled “Adolescent Latinas and Sexual Risk: Evaluating the Impact of Religiosity and Acculturation in Predictive Models”.
- Anna Harper, MSW graduate of our program and a current faculty associate, was selected as one of the 40 under 40 honorees for this year. She was selected as the Woman of the year from among the 40 under 40 honorees. Please attached link. http://www.azstarnet.com/sn/specialreports/312525

click here for registration details - Edwin Gonzalez-Santin, and the Office of American Indian Programs, obtained a major contract from the Navajo Nation to evaluate their Children Welfare Services and Promoting Safe and Stable Families Programs.
- Anna Harper, class of 2003, is being honor on Oct. 15th at the Arizona Daily Star “40 under 40” Award program. She will be celebrated as one of the 40 up-and-coming business and community leaders in Tucson. Anna is currently teaching at the Tucson Component as a faculty associate.
- Dr. Robin Bonifas is currently being featured by the Hartford Foundation.

- The Tucson Chapter of the National Organization of Women honored Dr. Ann Nichols as a Woman of Courage: at their annual luncheon on Aug. 22, 2009.
SUMMER 2009
- Dr. Chris Risley-Curtiss received a grant from the Animal Welfare Trust to support her on-going work in this area.
- Dr. Flavio Marsiglia has been invited, and accepted the invitation, to join President Crow's Academic Council. This Council goes beyond disciplines and structures to consider the university and its academic positioning as a whole. The Council’s ongoing goals include: (1) serving as a sounding board for new academic initiatives, (2) exploring ideas that would advance the institution academically, and (3) providing input on how to recruit, retain and encourage the best and brightest faculty.
- A recently published article by Dr. Monica Parsai, one of our recent doctoral recipients, and colleagues at SIRC, has been found to be one of the most frequently cited articles in Youth & Society. It ranked #12.
- The School 's MSW and Ph.D. programs have been granted official WRGP status by WICHE! This means that residents of Alaska, Arizona, California (effective 2010‐11), Colorado, Hawaii, Idaho, Montana, Nevada, New Mexico, North Dakota, Oregon, South Dakota, Utah, Washington, and Wyoming are eligible to apply for WRGP status for fall, 2010, and, if admitted, receive Arizona resident rates of tuition --a great bargain and students enrolling through WRGP are not required to demonstrate financial need! Stay tuned for more information about how to apply.
